Reviving Mathematics in Nigeria: For the people or for the individual...

To revive the study of Mathematics in Nigeria, the Federal Government should declare a four-year national emergency in Mathematics, Director/Chief Executive Executive Officer of the National Mathematical Centre, Prof. Adewale Solarin, has said.
The emergency should also include N108 billion bailout for the over 54,000 public primary schools in the country and moving the NMC to the Presidency, while all the private companies in Nigeria should adopt each of the public schools in the country.
According to Solarin, the use of Mathematics to solve electoral puzzle, a feat achieved by Prof. Chike Obi, in the Second Republic, could still be replicated in contemporary Nigeria because “there is Mathematics in everything.”
He spoke in Abuja during the national olympiads awards ceremony for secondary schools in Nigeria and investiture of first distinguished Fellow of NMC, Prof. Sam Ale, who was also its former Director-General.{
Solarin said, “The problem is basically for us to
have the funds to be able to extend these methods and developing materials to schools. Basically, you know that Maths at the secondary school level is a state affair; education is on the concurrent list. So it takes the state to take interest in the activities of the NMC to be able to reach out to the schools.
Who needs 108,000,000,000 to revive mathematics in a country. If this is a means, to what end? This innovation, what change is expectant, a reduction or eradication in the high rate of examination malpractice or a better grooming of the standard of education or to inculcate the habit of reading in the mind of children and youth.
Like minds, is this a way forward or a way out of the current state of educational mishap in Nigerian institutions or another exploit of the country's financial resources.   However, what good has the introduction of civic education brought amidst similar subjects as government, moral instruction etc. Discipline, influenced behaviours or selflessness

The Dangers Of Been Slim...

I read an article on the risk of been thin. I was amazed that something so admired and cherished can also be disastrous. Slim is beautiful. Slim is admired. Slim is money and for so many others in society "it's the in-thing". We are so caught up with been slim, so many have gone extra miles with surgery, some others captives of depression. The reality is, slim people are at a higher risk of acquiring fat related diseases than fat people. Not been fat puts one in more danger, thus stating that one is slim with less chances of acquiring fat related diseases is not telling ourselves the truth. When excess carbohydrates and fatty food are consumed, chances of our body storing the excess is certain.
The question is, I am not fat, what are my chances of been victimised by fat related diseases as cardiovascular. We should be aware that fat are stored in different parts of our body. Some under the skin(cutaneous) are much more safer and some others in our organs(visceral) such as our liver, kidney, heart etc. This is more dangerous, harmful and deceptive because on the outside one looks slim but on the inside more is been destroyed.
The answer is, we should make checking our weight regularly a priority to enable the calculation of body mass index to determine if one is underweight, overweight or even obese and in cases beyond the ordinary, working out and other measures should be taking to include counselling and meeting with a nutrionist.

I'm writing this with respect to the ongoing trend in society. The gay and transgender syndrome. I'm also writing as regarding Linda barnette's statement. Sure, the end is nigh and rapture is taking it's toll in society. So many more is yet to come, more that would shake humanity, religion, personal beliefs, human nature etc. So many others would force us to question our faith, denounce our beliefs and alter our humanity. We may never be able to defend ourselves, we may not be heard as well. Although, this might be the case and for which we all are aware. A time will come that we will be so shaken and pushed continuously, we should not waver or be moved for this to shall pass.

i choose to obey God rather than man...

This is nothing new, the legalization of gay marriages worldwide, it's refusal by some and it's acceptance by so many others. Here's the recent news as regarding the final approval and legalization of of gay marriages by an American court. A clerk in person of Linda Barnette who in time past have issued several marriage certificate to couples, resigned her job stating that she can no longer fulfill her duties as clerk by issuing certificates to same sex couples. Hmm... this is a serious one, i as an individual believes, we should stand for what we believe in. what your opinion of this decision she made?
"In the coming days, i believe Christians will be forced to abandon their jobs in public service. Those who remain will be targeted with lawsuits and investigations from the activists". What the certainty in this statement. Is there a truth to what she said.

Racial discrimination or self-esteem

A young boy went to high school amongst white kids. He is the only pupil with a black skin in his class. He felt left out and thus isolated himself from every pupil in school like he did in grade school. They tried getting close by been friendly but he gave a cold response that stated; stay away. He walked to school to and fro alone. He had a black friend, a class ahead of his but lost that friendship to his coldness. A contest for the best essay was assigned individually to every student. The teacher requested a topic be pick by choice. This will be presented a week from now; she said. This young pupil wanted so badly to write on different colors as an essay but he perceived himself not a good writer. Two days later after much research, he sat by the convenience door at school, repeatedly saying words to himself. Words he couldn't put in writing nor was sure they were accurate. He didn't make effort to do so as he felt he wasn't good enough. Claire is good at this, so is myle's, he said to himself. A young white girl who stood quietly listening to his every word was impressed and offered to help with the paper work. He yielded but immediately refused bluntly. He turned around to take his leave when the little girl said; We are indeed of a different skin color, states, country and of different opinion but it doesn't define who we are as a person. She paused for a while and said I'm mixed remember, how would you define me.
For a moment, the words seemed familiar, he struggled with his thought as he walked by the train station. Eureka!!!. They were words he had heard indeed from his teacher while in grade school. He remembered Mr Larry trying to get close, but he never let him. This was happening again for a third time. Essay presentation finally pulled through, every essay came with a message. They were essay's on encouragement, laughter, love , hope, togetherness etc. Unfortunately, he had nothing to say, he was dumbfounded and embarrassed. At that moment, he wished the very ground on which he stood would open up and swallow him before the white kids begin a mockery show of him. To his greatest surprise, the reverse was the case, his thoughts where not the reality he anticipated. At the sight of this, he recognized...What exactly was his problem, racial discrimination or self-esteem.
The goal in this story is not to shed light on racial discrimination, it's indeed as old as man. The goal is to bring to our awareness, discrimination tendencies inherent in us beyond been black or white.

Risk: breaking new ground.

Good morning beautiful growing generation. I hope we all are set to soar beyond limit and shine brightly without comprehension. Indeed, but staying true to yourself, true to your generation and true to what you believe in, is the ultimate.
No one ever conquered himself, herself or the world without taking risks. Risk to some great minds is part of our life journey. I say risk is life, it is a turn around for success. ''To laugh is to risk appearing a fool, to weep is to risk appearing sentimental. To expose feelings is to risk exposing your true self. To reach out to another is to risk involvement, to love is to risk not been loved in return. To hope is to risk despair, to try is to risk failure.'' Been awake this morning was a risk you took last night by sleeping. You never feared not waking up. That is a greater risk for life, be thankful. You don't want to risk a little, chances are you don't want a great success. Remember, amateurs built the ark, little David defeated Goliath, Nelson Mandela risked going to prison for 27 years, Thomas Edison failed countless times but never gave up.
What are you willing to have today. What job interview are you scared to attend. What is it that you desire but unwilling to take the risk. These times may look hard, impossible, hopeless but they would pass, don't avoid it, learn from it. ''The greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing and the person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing and is nothing. Only a person who risks is free. The pessimist complain about the wind; The optimist expects it to change; The realist adjusts the sail". Conquer your fears, playing it safe isn't success guaranteed. Today is a good day to take a step, go break new grounds, it would be worth it.

Entrepreneurshi vs self-employment:which is a great source of livelihood/sustainance or revenue among students in tertiary insitutions.

Entrepreneurship and self-employment seem to be the order of today and a source for revenue among students in tertiary institutions as regards the massive job application letters due to the state of unemployment crisis in the Nigerian economy. What seemed many moons ago a little nut, known to very few in society has gone global with millions of people in participation. Entrepreneurship skills and self-employed jobs ranges from the popular handiwork of learning a trade, a craft to creating a niche among relevantly known products and services. This trend have also made its way through the educational system as the need to acquire entrepreneurial skills and be more self-reliant are more recently than ever been taught in tertiary institutions as a necessary part of an academic discipline. The debate is, which of these is a source of revenue/sustainance or livelihood among students? In addition, has the state of economic unemployment into white-collar jobs given rise to this form of living or is society better wise to be creative and more helpful to its nation as citzens?
